While it is every little girl’s dream to be a princess, sophomore Mia Mooko has had the opportunity to turn that dream into a reality. Mooko started her journey by singing “twinkle twinkle little star” for her mom and has since then built herself a path toward a singing and acting career. She has most recently gotten the role of Cinderella in the school’s rendition of the classic Cinderella.

“Musical theatre is definitely the biggest influence in my life, and I think that’s because of how alive it is; how it tells a story,” Mooko said.

In addition to Cinderella, the young actress has been in shows here at BHS including the black box show, the improv shows, Anything Goes and Dracula.

However, the dream of being a Broadway star is not easily achieved. Though she has been acting for years, Mooko struggles to find a balance between theatre, school and extracurriculars.

“It’s a lot of late nights for sure, but seizing any spare time I have to finish homework k and just reminding myself that I’m doing this for the thing I love is enough to keep me going for now,” Mooko said.

When asked what advice she has for other aspiring actors and actresses, Mooko gives some tips on how to calm down before a big show.

“I would say to put yourself in more situations that make you nervous, and over time your mind will get used to it! Also, I think finding time to relax yourself before a performance is important. I like to close my eyes, sit down and listen to some music,” Mooko said.

Though the path to success in the theatre industry is not easy, Mooko is showing us all that if you can dream it, you can achieve it.
